West End is a village, not a resort strip
West End is one sandy main street lined with dive shops, restaurants and small hotels. Vehicles can drive it, but parking is limited and addresses are informal — most places are known by name rather than by number. Tell us the property or dive shop and your driver will take you to the door instead of leaving you at the entrance to the village.
Coming for the diving?
West End and Half Moon Bay are where most of Roatán's dive operations are based, and divers arrive with heavy, awkward bags. If you are travelling with tanks, regulators and more than one gear bag, say so when you book so the vehicle that comes has room for all of it — nothing rides on anybody's lap.
Late flights and the West End road
The last few minutes into West End are unlit and shared with pedestrians walking between bars. If you land in the evening, having a driver who already knows the turn-off is worth more than the price difference.
